Mae Shea was a long-time resident of Commack and an active member of the community. The Mae E. Shea Memorial Collection of Photographic Memorabilia of Commack is comprised of photographs, illustrations, notes, maps, newspaper and magazine clippings, programs and broadsides relating to Commack and local history. The collection also contains three albums of photographs, postcards, and clippings that belonged to Henry E. Shea (2013.16). |

Mae E. Shea was born in 1875 in Brooklyn, New York to Henry Concklin (1820-1907) and Annie Merritt Concklin (1846-1933). She married John M. Shea (1866-1919) and the couple had one son, Henry E. Shea (1909-1998) who married Elizabeth Colyer Gardiner (1911-2003). Mae Shea lived in Commack, Huntington Township, for more than 60 years. She died on August 1, 1964 at the age of 89 and is buried at Cypress Hills Cemetery in Brooklyn. |
